Primary Reflex Check

Primary reflexes, also known as primitive reflexes, are involuntary movements that originate in the fetal stage and continue into infancy.

"My husband and I are so so thankful we found Dr. Megan Thomas to help our grandson who has auditory processing and memory issues.  She has helped him so much. (...) She as also helped me with my hearing issues.  We highly recommend her for children and adults."

Primary reflexes, also known as primitive reflexes, are involuntary movements that originate in the fetal stage and continue into infancy. These reflexes are crucial for survival and development, preparing an infant for life outside the womb. As the infant grows, these reflexes should integrate into higher cognitive levels, allowing for voluntary and differentiated movement.

However, issues may arise when primary reflexes are retained, leading to developmental delays or disorders such as auditory processing disorder, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, and learning disabilities. At HearSense SC, we offer Primary Reflex Check to identify and address these issues using the Masgutova Method (MNRI).

Understanding Primary Reflexes

Primary reflexes are genetically programmed and present in everyone's body, regardless of cultural, socio-economic, or neuro-physiological differences. They emerge in a predictable sequence in conjunction with the neurosensorimotor and physiological maturation necessary to support their function.

For instance, the Moro reflex triggers the first breath of life, while the Babkin reflex initiates head turn for nursing. These reflexes provide the newborn with the basic survival mechanisms, tools necessary to gain information about the outside world, and establish the rudimentary basis for advanced motor development.

Primary Reflex Check

Our Primary Reflex Check involves a thorough evaluation of various reflexes, including but not limited to:

  • Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)
  • Babinski
  • Babkin
  • Bauer Crawling
  • Bonding
  • Fear Paralysis
  • Flying / Landing
  • Foot Grasp
  • Foot Tendon Guard
  • Hands Pulling
  • Hands Supporting
  • Landau
  • Leg Cross Flexion Extension
  • Moro
  • Robinson Hand Grasp
  • Spinal Galant
  • Spinal Perez
  • Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
  • Thomas Automatic Gait
  • Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex
  • Trunk Extension

Through these assessments, we can identify any retained primary reflexes and develop a personalized treatment plan using the Masgutova Method. Our goal is to help each individual integrate these reflexes, overcome developmental challenges, and reach their full potential.
